FIDE 12th West Surrey Blitz 2022

Two Sections:

  • FIDE MAJOR BLITZ – U2000 ECF – for adults and juniors alike!
  • FIDE MINOR BLITZ – U1300 ECF – juniors only
  • Rating used (in this order) will be FIDE blitz/ ECF rapid/ ECF standard/ FIDE standard.
  • If you are unsure of which section to enter, the organiser will put you in the best suited section e.g. your rating is 1050 and you have entered the FIDE Major then we will move you to the FIDE Minor.

If you are able to volunteer to help in the playing hall during play on the day with controlling, please email us at: admin@chessentriesforall.com.  Little chess knowledge and no experience is required to help with controlling as we will email you a clear list of duties, there will be more experienced and a qualified FIDE Arbiter present to assist should you need it.

Prizes:

  • FIDE MAJOR BLITZ: 
    • £100 expected prize fund.
    • £50 1st, £20 2nd, and £10 3rd.
    • £20 to highest scorer of opposite sex to winner.
    • In the event of a tie the prize money will be shared equally.
  • FIDE MINOR BLITZ:
    • Trophy for the winner, in the event of a tie for first place, the trophy will be awarded to the highest placed according to tie breaks.
    • Rosette/ medal for 2nd and 3rd place
    • Prize for highest scorer of opposite sex to winner.
  • In both sections only one prize awarded to each player.
  • Prize fund may be reduced if numbers are low.
  • The organisers reserve the right to redistribute, in whole or in part, any prize won by a competitor who has won or shared a prize.

Tie Breaks:

  1. The results of players in the same group
  2. Bucholz Cut 2
  3. Bucholz Cut 1
  4. Bucholz

Schedule:

Please note: If you are planning to enter on the day and you arrive after 10.35am, then you risk not be able to play the first round with a half point bye awarded only at the discretion of the Chief Arbiter which is dependent upon your time of arrival.

Pairings:

In all sections players will be paired using Swiss-Manager.  Pairings will be posted at the venue as well as at http://www.chess-results.com/ No discussion will be entered into concerning the pairings. Nobody gets knocked out and players are expected to play all nine rounds.  If a player needs to leave early, please inform the arbiters prior to leaving or upon your arrival if possible.

Scoring:

1 point for a win, ½ for a draw or 0 for a loss.

Time Control:

In both sections there will be 9 rounds played with digital clocks on all boards.  Clocks will be at a rate of all moves in 5 minutes per player (without any increments).

Rating:

All games in both sections will be sent to FIDE and the ECF for rating.  It is a condition of entry that players agree to their rating information being published by FIDE (International Chess Federation) and ECF (English Chess Federation). This information (ECF – ECF Rating Reference Number, Name, Club(s), Rating(s), Rating Category) or (FIDE – FIDE title, Federation, Current Rating, FIDE ID Number, Number of games rated in the rating period, Year of Birth, Gender and the current value of K for the player) is published as part of the Rating list on both the ECF and FIDE websites respectively. http://www.englishchess.org.uk/ https://www.fide.com/

  • Early Bird Rate  applies up to Thursday 8 September 2022.
  • Late Entry Rate applies from Friday 9 September 2022.
  • On the Day Entry Rate applies from 6pm Saturday 10 September 2022.
  • Parents, guardians or family members who are not playing are welcome free of charge, but please only one parent per child/ sibling group.

It is a condition of entry that players agree to the Chess Entries for All.com’s terms and conditions, which can be found here.  Please note one’s payment to enter the 12th West Surrey Blitz will be taken as one’s agreement to the Chess Entries for All.com’s terms and conditions.

Parking and Other Travel:

Parking is in a free large car park.

Arbiters Decisions:

All arbiters’ decisions are binding and final.  Players must reconcile any disagreements before leaving the tournament hall.

Parent/ Guardian Rooms:

Will be available for parents and players who have finished their games to wait.  Entrance is not permitted in the playing hall during round times.

Disclaimer and Parent Responsibility:

The organisers accept no responsibility for any loss, theft, damage, accident or players during the tournament.  Organisers will act in loco parentis providing supervision only in the chess playing hall while chess is in play.  Parents are responsible for their children throughout the whole tournament and must be on site at all times in case of emergency or other requirement.

Warning:

The weather may not be good, so bring along a quiet desk top game/ book you can play/ read between rounds in case it is impossible to go outside.  Muddy feet risk default!

Withdrawal:

A player may withdraw at any point up to the closing of early bird entries, Thursday 8 September, subject to a £7 administration fee.  Withdrawal subsequent to this date forfeits the full entry fee.
