Holiday Chess Courses 2019 & 2020

We would like to thank you all for your patience, understanding and support in dealing with the unprecedented challenges and uncertainty caused by the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Presently, we do not know when we will get back to normal so until then we are unable to book any courses.

Therefore, all the holiday chess courses have been cancelled until further notice.  Currently we are hoping to hold the next holiday course over half term in October 2020.

We will let you know as soon as we have any updates for you.  In the meantime please take care, continue to follow the government guidelines and look after yourselves and your families. We know that we will come out of this situation stronger and better than before and look forward to when we can continue our clubs in schools, when it’s safe to do so, and welcome you back.

However, we are able to run some group sessions over Skype so if this is something you would be interested in please click on the link below to give us your details:

Private One-to-One and Group Coaching

Course Dates:

October Half Term: 29, 30, 31 October 2019

February Half Term: 18, 19, 20 February 2020

Easter Holiday: 7, 8, 9 April 2020

 May Half Term: 26, 27, 28 May 2020

Summer Holiday: 28, 29, 30 July 2020

The courses will all take place from Tuesday to Thursday.  All will run from 10am to 1pm each day.

The Holiday Chess Courses are open to anybody aged 6 to 15 years of any ability. We limit the number in a group to around 12 applicants.  If we have enough applicants we will have more than one group and coach.  If there is two groups, applicants will be split by age, ability or experience with one group for the younger or less experienced players and an advanced group.

One does not need to attend all three days, one or two days in any combination is acceptable.  However, there will be a tournament run during the course with match games played each day and scores accruing through to the final day when prizes for 1st 2nd, 3rd and possibly further runners-up (for each group if their are more than one) will be awarded at the end of the final day.  Therefore, it is more difficult to win a prize if one does not attend all three days, but not impossible as it has been done in the past.

The course venue is the Claremont Room in King George’s Hall.  The hall’s address is: High Street, Esher, Surrey KT10 9RA and the course costs £30 per day.

Here are some of the chess coaches which may teach on the chess courses:

Top chess coach Emma-Jane Billington-Phillips

International Master Michael Basman

Experienced chess coach Olivia Smithies

Strong chess player Timothy Foster

All of the above have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check.

All payments must be made when entering a child on to a chess course in order to have a confirmed place as there is always high demand for all of our chess courses and last year they were all fully booked.

We do not reserve place(s) nor will we accept entries on the day due to high demand as we feel this gives everybody the same, fair chance to apply.
